The Rubber Band Reminder & The Thankful Journal

I’m currently on Day 8 of the 21 Day Challenge.  And let me tell you, there is power in this little ugly rubber band hanging out on my wrist.  It has been jumping back and forth from wrist to wrist a few times a day, but I’ve been amazed at how this rubber band has actually kept some of the whiny complaints I’ve had in my head from coming out of my mouth and tainting the atmosphere around me.  And even though some of the whiny complaints have come out, it’s brought a deeper awareness about the kind of stuff I’m so prone to talk about.  So, good stuff.

Another thing this book has been inspiring me to do is to begin a Thankful Journal.  It’s basically as simple as it sounds:  you spend time writing down things you’re thankful for in a designated journal to help cultivate an attitude of thanksgiving.  Over time, this journal will become of book of praise to God and a reminder of His kindness and provision during harder times.  I especially love this idea in terms of writing down things I’m thankful for about Jon and my marriage.  How cool will it be 5, 10 or 25 years from now to look back and read about all the things I loved about my husband during the early years of our marriage?

I haven’t managed to decorate my Thankful Journal yet, but I’m thinking it could use a little lace and pizzaz, don’t you think?  It’s a little…um…brown.  But it’s what’s inside the Thankful Journal that counts…
